Julie A. McElrath, a beloved member of our community, aged 72, peacefully departed this world on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah.
Julie was born to the late Phillip and Nora Smith, and from the very beginning, her outgoing personality and pure zest for life were apparent. Embracing the wonders of nature with open arms, she cultivated a deep love for the great outdoors. Whether it was venturing through lush landscapes or casting her line in serene waters, Julie found solace and joy in activities such as hiking, fishing, and exploring new destinations.
Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband, Darrell McElrath. In addition to her loving spouse, Julie leaves behind a daughter, Billie Hall of Paducah; Vernon Smith, her brother, also of Paducah; and several adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever cherish the memories they created together. Furthermore, a special place in Julie's heart was reserved for her great-niece Sherry Shepherd from Benton, KY.
In honoring Julie's remarkable life journey, we pay tribute to those who have preceded her in death. Two sons, Bill Owen Jr. and Lee Owen, and Julie's sister Phyllis Shepherd.
A private family burial will be held to honor Julie as she returns to embrace the earth she so admired during her lifetime on Friday, December 28, 2023, at 1pm at Liberty Cemetery in Hickory, KY.
The McElrath family has placed their trust in Keeling & Goodman Funeral Home at this difficult time, as they assist in the arrangements and ensure that Julie's farewell is carried out with the utmost care and respect.
