Jerry Don McMurtry, age 56 of Paducah died Monday, February 15, 2021 at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Center in Paducah. He was born the son of Thomas N. McMurtry, and Shirley Stamper McMurtry. Jerry was a man of many talents and abilities. He as a master craftsman, had a tremendous eye for interior design, he designed many of the sets and props for Southland Baptist Temple's presentation of The Gift, he loved fashion and style, enjoyed landscaping and plants, he has served as a camp counselor for youth camps, he had also served as a Sunday school teacher, people who knew him thought of him as a friend and mentor. Perhaps his greatest joy in life was filling the role of "World's Greatest Pappy."
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Southland Baptist Temple with Pastor Jimmy Franks officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Keeling & Goodman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife: Starr McMurtry of Paducah; his sons: Ben McMurtry (Melissa) of Sumter, South Carolina, Josh McMurtry (Carrie) of West Frankfort, Illinois, and Cruz Baker (Dana) of Murray; his daughters: Sarah McMurtry of Paducah, and Santana Cole (William) of Belleville, Illinois; his brother: Tom McMurtry (Lori) of Paducah; his sisters: Brenda Redick (Stan) of Grand Rivers, and Linda Thompson (Michael) of Benton; and his four grandchildren: Sophie Mae McMurtry, Ayla Reece McMurtry, Leeland James McMurtry, and Zion Christopher Cole.
