Charles William " Bill" Smith, age 91, died 4:50 pm Saturday September 6, 2014 at Baptist Health Care of Paducah.
He was born August 26, 1923. He served in the U. S. Army and was placed in the artillery in the South Pacific during 1943-1946. He was self employed as a carpet/ tile professional and he was a back yard mechanic. He will be missed not only for his youthfulness, but also for his gentle yet guarded heart. Many will remember him as Paducah's own "Bird Man" as he was featured in the Paducah Sun twice. He spent every day possible in his last years with many family and friends as he set out to feed the birds down at the riverfront. This was more than a pass time, it was his livelihood. He gave out numerous smiles and handshakes to even passers-by. God use him as a tool to carry out his work here on this earth according to Matthew 6:26, " Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in the barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them." He was passionate about family and through his smile, you knew you were loved unconditional. The younger folks will remember him asking " if you can tell me who is on this dollar, you can have it." He invested more than dollars into the futures of these generations. Those that crossed his path are more than blessed!
